school house rock

Not that we're skimping and saving for a massive wrap around porch or anything, but it would be rude to not at least consider free school houses that fate offers up right?  I think my house deserves something extraordinary as it's carriage house.  As does Daphne . . .

yes, vintage VWs must be named,
they won't sell you one otherwise . . .

We're pursuing it, and we'll see if anything pans out . . . We would need the building inspector to overlook the bell tower (height requirement) . . . .

  1. I am so thrilled to have stumbled upon your blog! Whenever I do not feel up to continuing on the restoration of my 20's Arts and Crafts Bungalow I just look at all the beautiful work that you and your husband has done and it gives me the drive to keep moving forward, It is alot of work for just one person but I will get there eventually!!

    1. Thanks so much Erik. The best part about one man operations is that things get done right, both for you AND the house - would love to see pictures sometime (bungalows are my favorite)...

  2. I will post some, She is a work in progress, they did an number on it and the outside was changed a bit, not to horrible, they removed the original taper columns and left just the support beams, (which appear to be hand hewn!) So I am in the process of building the tapers back up, And today I ripped off the god awful ceiling tile in the dining room, I still have to rip them off of the living room and the other bedroom ceilings, then in the bathroom and kitchen they covered the original beadboard with freaking plywood..... But the plus side is I got the shades for my original panlight :) Now to get some cloth covered wire for them....

    1. Nothing is quite as satisfying as ripping out ceiling tile (beware of mouse poop though). For the wire do you know about Sundial wire? look them up online if not.

  3. It wasn't a drop ceiling, It was stapled right onto the beadboard ceiling, And I have :) That is who I plan on buying the wire from, I am still trying to decide on what shape of bulb I want for them. the one in the Kitchen is a bare bulbed version, so I was looking at either a globe or tear drop shaped bulb, I think I have the one picked for the panlight with shades, It is extremely exciting to look at all this stuff. My only problem is trying to find the appropiate furniture for the house.... I do have a very beautiful 1920 Brunswick in it currently, It is in the dining room currently but will be moved to the living room as soon as I get ride of the television and the cabinet it goes into, but on the tiles, those are the bane of my existence.... they fall apart as soon as you touch them and create a massive asbestos filled dust cloud.
