I'd like to introduce you to Thornfield, the prickly sounding title of the home of John G. Kelly.
The irony is that the name was staring us in the face all along, as it's the name of this section of Edgewood on the plat books.

So while we won't be renaming the blog, we will be relishing this rather magical development.
After we named our house we found out it was called Top of the Hill. You know why it is called that? Cause it is at the top of the hill, it was so obvious. I tell people all the time, "just look for the grey house at the top of the hill." We've decided to change the name and add an additional sign on our pillar to read Gear Acres at Top of the Hill.
ReplyDeleteI know it's just an ego thing, but it was a thrill to see our house named along with all the titans of industry that Pittsburgh is known for! Makes one wonder about the origin of the name though, although maybe it's just as obvious as it sounds?
DeleteWhat a cool discovery. My house isn't grand enough to have a cool name; I'm a little jealous.
ReplyDeleteIt's sorta hilarious just how excited I am over it, especially since it has no effect at all on the actual restoration!
DeleteWhat an incredible discovery!!!!!! I am SO excited for you!
ReplyDeleteNow, if only CSI Miami technology was real and I could decipher what all my missing stained glass panels looked like!
DeleteWHAT?
DeleteTV show technology isn't real??????
I am crushed with bitter disappointment!
Oh I'm so glad I dropped into read what was new & exciting in your world. What a frigg'n great find!!! I've been trying to name my house and garden for like 4 years now with no luck finding anything that feels natural or finding anything historic like you found! That's even exciting to me and it's not even my house LOL!
ReplyDeleteWe named the house Sparrowhaunt as we had never dreamed of the house being named (or finding it out). Everyone keeps telling me how they like our name more, which is missing the point entirely, because omfg our house has a name! And not only that, it's a fantastic name (and still so very fitting).
Delete...ps...did you find that online or on microfilm at the library? if you found it on-line could you give me the link to explore more?
ReplyDeleteWe're subscribed to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette archives (all online), I believe it's around $8.00 a month. They've been slowly digitizing their collection, which includes many smaller papers they've bought out over time. I'd love to see what you find out!
DeleteOh, I see. Well..Here's a good link to free Pittsburgh Press online https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=djft3U1LymYC&hl=en
ReplyDelete..ps and also many other newspapers if you click "browse all papers" in the upper right
